Satellites Stories – Summer 2025
We were delighted to return to Shepton Mallet for another great week at Sattelites Youth Camp during the Summer Holidays – Here are a few of our stories:
Libby – Volunteer Leader
I went to Satellites with illuminate this year, as a leader for the group. This was the first Christian festival I had ever been to, let alone as a leader, so it was a learning experience for me as well as the young people!
I really enjoyed being able to connect with the young people, as there were some new faces for me. It was great for us to enjoy the experience together as a group, and to connect with God in so many different ways. The ‘Orbit’ morning sessions gave a great opportunity for us to explore the book of Matthew over the week, through a range of styles including journaling, crafts, and the ‘Deeper’ study style. The main meetings were also a highlight – the worship was very powerful, and the sermons allowed so many young people, including ours, to connect with God and commit to exploring their faith deeper. We loved to turn up to the main arena early to claim a good spot, as we got to have a sing and dance while we waited for the meetings to start! I also managed to get roped into a morning Dance and stretch session with some of the youth, and although I was reluctant to the idea, I liked it enough that I went again another morning 🙂
For me, the experience showed that I want to get involved in more youth work, and how I want to make a difference in doing so. I am very grateful I took up the opportunity to join the illuminate crew for the week!
Emily – Young Person / Volunteer
No other festival has compared to Satellites, and I’ve been going to christian youth events since I was about 8 years old. This year, as I was old enough, I decided to join the team for Satellites, specifically in catering. It felt amazing to know that I was part of the bigger picture and my role within Satellites allowed other young people to have just as an amazing experience as I have had each time that I came to Satellites.
Being on team really opened my eyes to the inner workings of an event like this. From the moment I arrived on site looking at fields completely empty of tents with only people in hi-vis helping to set up for the week ahead I realised just how much goes into making sure every young person has a brilliant experience and discovers new parts of their relationship with Jesus. From meeting all the incredibly hard working volunteers while serving them their lunch to coring my own body weight in red peppers, seeing even just a few of the small details that help create Satellites was such a privilege.
Although I worked around 7 hours per day, I was still left with plenty of time to enjoy everything there was to offer at Satellites. I listened to many inspiring and informative talks, felt connections with God during worship sessions, talked to other people who came from illuminate and made friends with those from other youth groups. Some highlights for me were the dance sessions run in the morning and getting to dress up for the final night party.
Overall my experience this year at Satellites was particularly spectacular as I got to experience every element of the event. I would strongly recommend going yourself, whether that be volunteering on team or not.
